- They have atleast 15% less body weight than the normal body weight
- They do excessive exercises
- They use laxatives
- They do not eat anything
In this article, we shall know the effects of anorexia on the body and mind.
Anorexia is a terrible disease. Many people have a great misconception about this disease and think it as just something that is very normal. But it is not so. It has devastating effects on the people who suffer this disease.
- There was one case of a young girl suffering from anorexia. She was seen with low self esteem. She had an unrealistic image of herself and tried to fast to get that image. One bad thing about this disease is that though the person who is suffering is grossly underweight, he/she thinks that he/she is very fat and madly fasts to be underweight.
- Anorexics suffer from several psychological and behavioral problems. They have very different personality. They have no fixation of food and are terrified with the very idea of food. They often lie about the food they have eaten. They hide the food and do not eat it and dispose it later.
- The effect of these bad eating habits shows on the body. Anorexics have numerous health issues. They have low blood pressure and irregular heart rhythm. They have brittle nails and weak eyes. Anorexics can also have kidney problems as they refuse to drink enough water.
- Not everyone has the same symptoms of disease. It depends on the age, height and body weight how the person has bodily reactions. Anorexics generally have inconsistent body weight.
- Another important trait of anorexics is that they do a lot of exercises. They try to show their energy to others. But all that leads to more weight loss.
- Anorexic women have an irregular menstrual cycle.
- Other effects include psychological problems like anxiety, dry skin, weakness and shortness of breath. They also suffer from bone loss due to less food intake. This can lead to diseases like osteoporosis.
- One of the worst effects of anorexia is death. About 15% of anorexics die due to adverse results of anorexia. Many anorexics may even commit suicide due to emotional problems they suffer from.
The conclusion is that anorexia has deplorable effects on those who suffer it.
