Fasting brings some complications in the body. Some are common and less serious while some are dangerous. Weakness, headache, dizziness, muscle pain, etc are some of the common and less serious complications that one may face during fasting. But when the danger signals cross the limits, the complications turn dangerous. In this article, we shall give you some of the dangerous complications during fasting.
Great Weakness: Weakness is always not a dangerous signal, but in some cases it can be. It usually causes the person to terminate the fasting as soon as possible. Persistent extreme weakness is one more dangerous complication of fasting that needs immediate attention.
Palpitations or Erratic pulse: This can be, sometimes, a very dangerous signal or complication during fasting. The person has an erratic pulse of short duration, but it should be taken as serious if the pulse is lasting.
Difficult Breathing: It is one of the complications which is listed in Dr. Kritzer symptoms or warnings to discontinue the fasting. This is a very rare complication which is, in general, related to the condition of the patient.
Retention of Urine: This is a very rare complication. It occurs due to insufficient water drinking during the fasting. But this cannot be taken as the only cause of retention of urine. A catheter may be employed to reduce this complication. There are some cases where there is a prolonged retention of urine at the end of a prolonged fast.
Delirium: It is still very rare complication. It develops in those people who took large quantities of nerve paralyzing drugs before fasting. The delirium is usually of short duration. Dangers of complications do not arise from the fast but from other causes.
Other danger complications are:
- Persistent hiccoughs
- Fear of starvation
- Uncontrollable vomiting
- Persistent determination to break the fast
