Symptoms of eye allergy
There are many symptoms and signs of eye allergy, of which some of them are more prevalent compared to others. The symptoms which are most common can emerge alone or with the combination of other symptoms, which are listed below:
- Puffiness or swelling of the eyelid and swelling of the eye ball
- Redness
- Itching in the eyes
- Redness in the inner eyelid or white of the eye
- Tearing (increased amount of watering or tears)
- Contact lens discomfort
- Mucous discharge
- Foreign body sensation
- Blurred, unclear or hazy vision
- A scratchy feeling inside the eye
- Some sensation inside the eye
- Photophobia, its an increased sensitivity towards light

Causes of eye allergy
- Most allergens are present in the air, but when they come in contact with eyes they cause eye allergies. Some of the airborne allergens include dust, mold, pet dander and pollen.
- Other causes of eye allergies include bee stings or certain foods which do not typically cause an affect in the eye like the air borne allergens.
- Adverse reactions to some drugs ( such as the antibiotic eye drops) or cosmetics can also cause an eye allergy.
- Some persons are actually allergic to the preservatives used in the eye drops, like those lubricate dry eyes. For such cases, they should go for preservative-free brand.
