A sty on the eye is also known as hordeolum. It is a small bump which appears on the inside or outside of your eyelid. This mainly manifests from an eyelid oil gland or eyelash follicle which finally becomes clogged due to bacteria, debris or excess oil secretion. Stys can occur due to high stress levels, although this can be a complication for another eye condition known as blepharitis. A sty on the eye can appear ugly but it is harmless. Symptoms of Sty
People suffering with stys complain of redness, itching, tenderness, pain or watery eyes. These usually appear as a red bump on the eyelid. The eyes may become photo phobic or feel bruised. In severe cases, in the center of the eye, a yellow spot may develop. This is called as internal hordeolum. Pus collection inside the sty leads to the sty development. When the sty ruptures and the accumulated pus drains out, the pain also subsidies.
Causes of Sty
People afflicted with chronic blepharitis are susceptible to clogged eyelid glands. In this case, the bacteria accumulates and infects the glands. Even applying excessive eye makeup can lead to development of sty on the eye.
Treating a Eye Sty

Antiobiotic pills, eye drops and ointment — These antibiotics may aid in curing the eye infection. When the skin surrounding the infected area, it becomes necessary to take antibiotic pills.
- Massage — To speed up the process of healing, gently massage the entire area.
- Warm Compresses — On a daily basis, place a warm washcloth against your closed eyes and gently press for 10 minutes. Try to repeat it 4 times at least.
