Twitching of eyes is an involuntary movement of the eyelid which takes place every few second over a course of a minute or two. Sometimes this process gets stretched up for a longer duration making your eyelid close completely before reopening.
Eye twitching can come and go unpredictably for few days, weeks, months. These spasms do not hurt but they are annoying. When the eye twitching is accompanied by other facial spasm then it may be a earliest sign of some chronic movement disorder.
Causes Of Eye Twitching:
Some of the common causes of Eye Twitching are:
- Irritation of the eyes or eyelids or irritation inside the eyes.
- Intake of excessive of Alcohol
- Constant fatigue
- Excessive caffeine intake.
- Lack of sleep
- Excessive Physical exertion
- Excessive smoking
- Continuous stress.
Blepharospasm:
Chronic uncontrolled movement of eyelids in both the eyes can result in Blepharospasm. The exact reason for this is not yet known but there are few conditions which precede or accompany Blepharospasm. These are โ Blepharitis, Dry Eyes, and conjunctivitis.
Blepharospasm is the condition in which excessive and abnormal blinking of eyes takes place along with eye irritation. Slowly the duration of spasms increases during the may not stop even after a sound sleep in the night. As the condition worsens the spasms get stronger and results in tight shutting of the eyelids for hours. Sometimes it becomes very difficult for the person to see through his eyes.
Eye Twitch โ Prevention Measures:
Some basic steps which can be taken to prevent eye twitch are:
- Taking measures to keep stress under control.
- Sleep for enough time so that muscles of the eyes are relaxed.
- Take frequent breaks from your work if you are working on computer to relax your eyes. This will also prevent eye twisting.
