Sometimes you may find itching all over your back and front, you feel it because of clothes. You may also feel that clothes are just rubbing your skin and producing arduous prickles on it. Another thing is that you feel relieved when bare and just like to keep the clothes away.
Well… If you are in the above situation, then you have Laundry Detergent Allergy. This is also known as contact dermatitis, caused by laundry detergents.
Now-a-days, you can see many marketing agents promoting cheap quality detergents with a label of brand names on them. They cheat people by selling unauthenticated products that are harmful for health. Detergent allergy is caused by such adulterated detergents. It is often seen that fragrance producing detergents cause allergies that are immediately experienced or experienced within a few hours after initial exposure.
Symptoms of a laundry detergent allergy vary from skin to skin. The skin becomes itchy, red and scaly patches appear after repeated exposure. After some time the irritated skin may become swollen, scaled, blistered and may burn or sting. Presently there are no tests that are performed to determine the presence or absence of the allergy.
What can you do:
- First thing that you can do is throw your clothes back into the washer and rinse them thoroughly for another cycle.
- Dip the washed clothes in hot water to get even the last trace of detergent out.
- If this do not work, you have to switch to another detergent.
- Use gentler or milder detergents preferable those which are fragrance-free. Use hypo-allergenic detergents which are specifically made for those who are allergic to detergents.
- Another tip is put gloves while hand washing the clothes. This will protect your hand skin.
