Nasal irrigation of nasal lavage, commonly known as Sinus Flush has its basis in traditional Yoga practice of East. However for the western society to embrace that it took some time. After some initial scepticism, finally in 19 th century western medical practitioners started to adopt it.
Sinus Flush is now a days most widely used practice of therapy for treatment of nasal congestion. Apart form treating nasal congestion and other related allergic symptoms it is also used for general cleansing process of bacteria and other pathogens. The number of people who use sinus flush as a treatment of option is increasing every passing day.
Sleep apnea can also be effectively treated by this procedure. The patients of sleep apnea have better sleep because their breathing problem are treated by flushing out infections. Sinus flush is found to be effective even in curing dry heat, dehydration, and old age.
What are the Tools Used for Sinus Flush?
There are many tools that used for sinus Flush. The mos traditional and the oldest methods too is neti pot. Others include water pic tooth cleansers, This is used with a special attachment. Apart from this even special spray bottles and syringes can also be used.
What is the Solution Used for Sinus Flush?
The most common solution used as part of treatment is the saline prepared by mixing of half tea spoon of salt with warm water. If it suits adding of a pinch of baking soda is recommended.
How is Sinus Flush Carried Out?
Two of the most common methods used to carry out Sinus Flush include the following:
Lay back on the bed , hang your head off, then pour the water into the nostril. Wait a moment before it sets, now tilt our head side ways slowly, along with the nostril that is being treated currently, by an angle of 45 degrees. This facilitates the saline solution to enter into the nasal passage. This will build up lit bit of pressure that removes the extra mucous. Now add some more saline and maintain this posture for 2 to 3 minutes. Then return back to your original position so that the sinuses are thoroughly drained.
Another method is to turn your head over a sink and pour saline into the affected nostril. Now plug your other nostril for few minutes. Now unplug so that the water runs out of the lower nostril and then into the sink. This is not that effective though. It is used to treat mild infections and dryness.
