    Gluten Allergy Symptoms

    Gluten is a protein that is rubbery and elastic in nature. The examples of grains that carry gluten in them include barley, rye, wheat and oats of lesser degree. The function of gluten is to bind dough in foods of baked items and bread etc. The presence of gluten also gives consistency and sponginess to the cereals like rice and maize.

    The allergy to gluten is very commonly found. The study shows that nearly one out of the 167 children usually suffer from this allergy which is 0.6%. Similarly, in adults, one in a group of 111 adults is found to be allergic to gluten. This makes 0.9% of the population. These statistics show that this allergy is commonly found.

    Gluten allergies are quite common and 1 out of 167 children suffer from a gluten allergy. This is also common in adults as 1 out of 111 adults suffer from gluten allergy symptoms. According to research, 1 out of 30 adults and 1 out of 40 children with gastrointestinal complaints were diagnosed with gluten allergy. Thus, it is the most common allergy in people.

    The symptoms of gluten allergy are quite similar to celiac disease symptoms. Gluten allergy symptoms can be confirmed with a proper test. Some symptoms with a gluten allergy are discussed in this article.

    • Formation of hive formation on the skin
    • Foul smelling stools
    • Headaches
    • Bloating
    • Abdominal pain and cramps
    • Vomiting

    • Swelling around the mouth
    • Irritability
    • Tingling in the feet and legs
    • Allergic rhinitis
    • Nausea
    • Cramping in your stomach

    Tips To Prevent Gluten Allergy

    Here are few basic steps which can be followed to prevent gluten allergy. These are:

    • Avoid the cereal of barley and alcoholic beverages.
    • Avoid baked and fried items
    • Intake of cookies, crackers, cream of wheat can cause you allergy so it is better to avoid them
    • The items like vermicelli, rye bread, wheat gram, puddings, pastries all carry allergic ingredients in them. So it is advisable to avoid them.
    • Then, soy sauce, different types of sausages, some yeasts can also result in gluten allergy. It is, for this reason, they must be avoided.

    A person may not experience all the following symptoms, but some of them can be found. When gluten allergy symptoms are left untreated, they may lead to various bone diseases, anemia and some instances of cancer have also been reported.

    Gluten intake can be decided unless you have celiac. If gluten intake does not make you feel better, it is better to avoid it. You can seek a doctor’s advice for the changed behavior of your child.
