The word rhinitis simply implies the inflammation of the nose. You may have often experienced runny nose, when a fluid comes out from your nose, this fluid is called mucus which is normally clear and thin. This fluid, in normal condition, helps to keep debris, dust and allergens out of the lungs.
Sometimes the airborne allergens trigger the release of histamines that cause inflammation in the fragile linings of sinuses, nasal passages and eyelids. Due to the irritation in nose, it produces more mucus that becomes pale yellow and thick. This mucus starts coming out from nose that is called rhinitis.

Causes of Allergic Rhinitis

- Ragweed pollens are the most important cause of allergic rhinitis. These are generally produced by trees, grass and weeds.
- Mold and mildew are also two of the major causes. Molds are actually tiny fungus spores which can easily become airborne. These are generally found in soil, vegetation and rotting wood. But sometimes they can be found indoors also l, especially in basements, damp areas and bathrooms.
- Dust mite is another reason of allergic rhinitis. These can’t be seen with bare eyes. It inhabits in the household dust. They are normally found indoors in the suffocated and stuffy places.
- Animal dander is an important cause of this condition.
- Finally cockroach eggs, droppings and saliva of cockroach are also equally responsible to cause allergic rhinitis.
