Are you cat lover but at the same time allergic to cats? Then here is great news for you. Now according to a research finding you don’t have to say good bye to your favorite pussy cat to find relief.
According to Spanish researchers allergic kids can enhance tolerance towards cats by increasing the dose of dander extract from a standardize cat. According to Dr. Emilio Alvarez-Cuesta, Hospital Ramony Cajal, Madrid the first reaction of people allergic to cats is remove cats from their homes. But this reaction is not at all effective instead immunotherapy is the only solution to allergic reaction.
Immunotherapy works on the idea that immune system of the body can enhance its tolerance level if regularly it is exposed to steadily increasing quantity of allergens. Immunotherapy starts with the amount of allergens which do not triggers allergic reaction. In case of Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) the allergens are placed below the tongue from where it is easily adsorbed by the system.
In order to check the effectiveness of SLIT, randomly 50 allergic youngsters were selected for the study. For a year these participants were then given daily SLIT drops with rising levels of cat allergens. Then the participants were tested by asking them to spend about 90 minutes in allergen exposed room.
Research showed that 62% of 33 participants who had completed the SLIT course, there was a marked reduction in the symptoms as compared to the symptoms before treatment. The study also showed that there was an improvement in the peak expiratory flow values and significant reduction in the skin test reaction.
During the research period no adverse reaction were observed. The conclusion of the research was that SLIT can improve cat allergy on the natural basis.
