It is very difficult to find and conclude about what part of the brain controls speech. It is much more complicated than it seems. Most researchers say that the left side of the brain controls speech is more complicated than it seems.
The brain is the most vital organ in most living organisms. The brain is the center of the nervous system in human beings, which is located in the head. Our skull protects it. It lies very close to our primary sensory organs eye (vision), ear (hearing), Skin (touch), taste (tongue), and nose (smell). The brain is extremely complex. It is divided into the left hemisphere and the right hemisphere. This is termed as lateralization.
The areas in the left hemisphere have been found to control the language in 97% of right-handed humans. But about 19% of left-handed humans use the right hemisphere. Around 68% of humans use both the left and the right hemispheres to control their language abilities. In few cases, if a child has a damaged left hemisphere, still he can manage to develop language using the right hemisphere. But such cases are very in occurrence. The chances of recovery are better at very younger age.
Creation of Speech In The Brain:
- Not much areas are present in the left brain which can process and form the speech.
- The left side of the temporal lobe helps in acquiring language, correlating the sounds that are heard and the things that are seen or experienced.
- The creative areas in our brain adds to concepts and experiences and help us think in new ways to say.
- Oral language is first spoken in our mind. We think the words first before speaking. The left side of the frontal lobe situated in the above the left eyebrow results in this internal speech.
- The sharpness and the responsiveness of speech is determined by the left frontal lobe. The spontaneous speaking or search for words all depends on this area of the brain.
- Making intellectual and decisive conversation is the result of the left side of the frontal lobe.
Understanding The Speech In The Brain:
- The right side of the brain is involved in generating the speech and interpreting its meanings. Injured right brains have seen to have effected the language.
- The person loses the power to understand and analyze complex speech and the concept of speech.
- Left brain can manage the precised and the exact thought process.
- But broad understanding is done by the right brain.
- So it can be said that the both the parts of the brain can help in controlling the speech.
Making The Sounds Of Speech:
- The grammar is dealt by the pre-motor area of the left brain.
- They put words into an intelligible order.
- The whole action is carried out by the motor area in the brain.
- This area is present on the left side.
- It contains a speech center.
- This speech center turns up all the thought processes into muscle movement.
- This muscle movements results in the movement of mouth, tongue and jaw to make sounds during speaking.
- So sound is generated by the left hemisphere.
