If your mumbling is due to any shyness, then you are attracting unnecessary attention towards yourself. Without understanding anything, people would only start nodding their heads and simply smile to escape. This will never lead to any compliments or acknowledgement irrespective of your appreciable work.
It can be highly bothersome for you as you will be asked to repeat your words again and again. Nothing is moire shameful than that. Mumbling seems to be more common in men. Most tall men mumble while short ones rarely because of their short height they tend to talk louder with good diction.
Exercise To Fight Mumbling:
Stand in front of mirror. Talk whatever comes to your mind. Look carefully in the mirror to see if your lips are moving. This will help you to check if you mumble while talking or not. If yes then you need to go for the below exercise.
This exercise will make you feel like an idiot. Make sure you are alone while performing this.
- Stand straight in front of a mirror.
- Say something in front of the mirror.
- Exaggerate the movement of your lips and the lower jaw greatly.
- Keep saying something from your memory.
- Open your mouth excessively wide.
- Move your jaw noticeably while speaking.
- Then say the same thing again without making efforts to exaggerate.
- You would notice you lips moving normally while saying words. use same songs or same thought while doing the exercise. Anything that comes into your memory that instant is also helpful.
This exercise needs regular practise and self-awareness to show its quick effectiveness. As it is very simple, it is taken up by most people. s is a very simple exercise but it is surprisingly effective.
You can always compare your results by recording your own speech and hearing them in regular intervals.
