Women have always been asserting themselves in every field and venturing into areas which were male-dominated. Womanhood has not held them back and no more are they considered to be the “weaker” sex. Decisively and fearlessly, they have pursued their interests and undertook challenging tasks and acted upon them in the most efficient possible way by taking challenging decisions.
Women have gained expertise in taking decisions independently and have proved their merit in solving problems effectively and appropriately. In politics, they have proved their competence in deciding major issues and have not comprised on their beliefs. They are a force to reckon with in the arena of human rights and have been taking decisions, which have supported woman’s liberation and freedom. Even as astronauts, they have come across as women of strength and endurance. They have entered male dominated fields such as army, navy and police etc. Socially, economically and politically they are decisive.
Empowerment of women is what a modern woman believes in. Coming out of the confines of four walls of her home, she has evolved a world of her own, participating in the mainstream of world events. She has carved a niche for herself, and continues to fight for battles, be it cases of rape or molestation or sheer male arrogance. How does she do it?
The Role of a Decisive Woman
- Women have questioned the traditional decision-making structures, which were highly male dominated and patriarchal in nature. They have started participating in events that normally a male would consider his prerogative to do so
- Women have been successful as politicians and political leaders. Ms. Hillary Clinton, aspirant for U.S. presidential candidature, former Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi and recently assassinated former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Ms. Benazir Bhutto have proved that they could also assert themselves and prove equal to their male counterparts in running the Government or raising issues that concern the Government. Both Mrs. Gandhi and Ms. Bhutto succumbed to the assassin’s bullets, proving that whatever they decided upon they faced the outcome of these decisions fearlessly
- Entrepreneurship has also attracted women and many have been successful in their business ventures. They took decisions independently in business matters and also participated in several business decision processes and took risks successfully
- In Malaysia, it was decided that women would hold third of all decision-making positions in the coming future. Women should be well trained and skilled, it was felt
- The Beijing Platform for Action ensured the women should have access to and full participation in power structures and decision-making processes. It encouraged women’s leadership participation.
- Canadian Government also favored that U.N. attained its goal of equal representation for women and men within the UN system. The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) supports several broad ranging projects which favor an enhanced decision-making role among women in developing countries
- The Istanbul Declaration, the Copenhagen Declaration, Vienna Declaration and Program of Action made in various summit meetings supporting Human Rights have all favored the decision-making involvement of women in various spheres of life
- Women Human Rights activists have been fighting for causes concerning women’s freedom. Many well-known women writers are asserting for freedom of thought and expression in their writings and are facing religious persecution on account of it
- Women even on the home front have to face several hurdles in taking their own decisions, but yet they do
Women power involves decisive decision-making processes. Modern changing life-styles are forcing women to become more independent and assertive. They are actively involved in taking their own independent decisions and are proving better than men. Dependency on men has been reduced and they are coming into focus on their own merit. No doubt this decision making process has to percolate to grass-root levels, in the sense, it should have its impact on all women, as some are still subdued and confined to the four walls of their home.
