Dutch researchers have revealed that when pregnant mom’s hget nutty, that is have a lot of nuts or nutty products like peanut butter, etc can increase the risks of their kid developing asthma in the future. Quiet a pain, ain’t it? First, you have to bear the bulge and next you can’t eat this, you can’t eat that, etc, etc. As the researchers found that moderate eating of nuts did not affect kids, there is more to be arrived at as healthy fats and nutrients contained in nuts is recommended for the growing fetus.
Saskia Willers from the Utrecht University who has led the team of study that linked nuts with asthma risks claims that till it isn’t certain, they do not want pregnant mom’s to give up on nuts.
As per WHO’s reports, about 30 percent of the kids in some countries develop asthma. Asthma is an inflammatory disease that leads to some common symptoms like — breathing difficulties, coughing, wheezing, etc.
Though scientists aren’t very sure of how peanut allergies can lead to increased asthma risks in kids, they believe that it could happen on account of the allergies narrowing the bronchial tubes. Willers claims that both seafood and peanuts are considered to potent foods that can cause allergies but peanut allergies alone showed a direct link with increased risk of asthma in infants.
About 4000 pregnant mothers were made to fill a dietary questionnaire that was related to what they consumed like — vegetables, milk, fruits, nuts, etc. The researchers found that pregnant mom’s who ate as less as just one sandwich of peanut butter increased the asthma risks in their infants.
Though eating moderate amounts of nuts or nutty products wouldn’t do much harm to the fetus, Willers is of the opinion that eating nuts daily could pose a problem for the kid developing asthma. In yet another way that she links nuts with asthma is the assumption that peanut allergens that pass through the placenta maybe sensitizing the fetus in a way that the unborn becomes vulnerable to asthma.
