Cold sores are small blisters that form around the mouth. They may be painful or irritating. They are a variant of herpes virus. They are a differing form of the same virus that causes venereal herpes.
How do Allergies cause Cold Sores
Allergy does not bring about a cold sore on the lip directly. This is because allergies are body’s reaction against what it sees as an invader in the body. This causes histamines to produce symptoms to cope with whatever the allergic trigger is. Cold sores are caused by a virus, against which the body has not developed immunity. The reason allergies and cold sore are related is the immune system. When allergy leaves our immune system weakened, there is increased chance of developing a cold sore.
Symptoms of Cold Sores
- burning, tingling and itching around the mouth
- redness and blisters filled with fluid on the lip
Causes for Cold Sores
- weakened immune system
- exposure to sunlight
- physical and emotional stress
- fever
- hormonal changes like pregnancy or menstruation
- certain foods and drugs
Allergic reaction to food is also a way that cold sores can develop. Weakened immune system, produced by the allergy, is a reason for the fact that a cold sore will find it easier to grow. Herpes can take up to three weeks to heal.
Remedies for Allergy Related Cold Sores
When you experience symptoms of cold sore, such as tingling and burning, take note of what might be causing it. If you have eaten something before experiencing the symptoms, consider if this is the cause. Food allergy to wheat for instance might be a cause.
Chemical such as sodium, colorants and preservatives can also cause allergies. Foods, which contain these substances, can be the reason for cold sores because they are in direct contact with the lips.
Lactose intolerance is a common allergy. This is an allergy which can cause cold sores by directly attacking the mouth and throat when something with lactose is ingested. This is why lactose is good to avoid when symptoms occur.
