Laser treatment:
- Argon laser is used to treat retina.
- In this treatment, sequential burns are applied to the retina.
- It reduces the oxygen requirement for the central retina.
- It retards the abnormal blood vessels growth that have a bleeding tendency.
- Argon Laser can also treat macular edema.
Vitrectomy:
After the vitrectomy, you will be able to return home. Some patients stay overnight in the hospital. Eye will be sensitive and red for few days. Wear an eye patch to protect your eye. Also use recommended eye drops to protect against infection.
Prognosis
- Vitrectomy and laser treatment are effective treatments for proliferative retinopathy.
- Laser treatment also helps to prevent further diabetic retinopathy proliferation.
- Both treatments help to reduce vision loss.
