It is mainly caused due to fat and fluid. Heredity is the cause of this problem for some people. Retaining water may also cause puffiness under eyes, usually in the morning. Drink lots of water to reduce this problem. This article gives some important tips to treat or reduce puffiness.
Tips to reduce puffiness under eyes
- Chill stainless steel spoons in ice water and place them over each eye. The spoons become warm after sometime. Replace them with other chilled spoons. Repeat it until you observe improvement.
- Place a chilled, green tea bag or steeped chamomile over each eye for two to five minutes. Natural properties of herbal trees help to reduce puffiness.
- Cucumber has anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce puffiness or redness of the eye. Slice a cucumber and place two slices over each eye. Peel the remaining cucumber and puree it. Apply this as a pack to the face. Clean it after 15 minutes. Then apply a moisturizer.
- Natural way of treatment is to rub vitamin E oil overnight around the eyes.
- Smear a drop of fresh Castor oil along the eye lids. It is also one of the effective treatment.
- When you have puffy eyes rinse your face with cold water. It reduces swelling.
- Do not eat foods rich in saturated fat and try to add more fibre to your diet.
- You should have 8 hours of sleep daily. If not, the skin around your eyes will swell.
- Place slices of raw potato on the eyes. It smoothens swollen eye lids and reduces puffiness and swelling.
- Sleep on your back with your head raised up by two pillows. This makes the fluid to flow overnight by preventing it from collecting under the eyes and reduces puffiness.
Talk to your doctor if you continuously have puffiness under eyes . You might be having symptoms of allergies or sinusitis. It can be cleared by medication or antibiotics.
