Defective vision is quite common in present times and the solutions for it is simple – Wear glasses. We all know the above but what we don’t know id that wearing glasses has many disadvantages too.
When wearing a glass, it is advised that one should look straight at the center of the lens. While looking sideways people do not move their eyeballs but move their head instead. Thus constant use of glasses hinders the natural process of eye movement and causes “parking” of eyes. With time muscle of the eyes become sluggish due to non-use. People using glasses also have a reduced blinking which is required to assist and preserve eye sight.
The primary causes for defective vision are:
- Mental strain
- Improper Diet
- Improper blood and nerve supply
Let us have a look at some of the ways (exercise and diets) that will help in getting rid of spectacles:
1. Eye exercise to loosen the strained and contracted muscle surrounding the eyes:
- Keep head still and relaxed. Move your eyes up and down gently for 5-6 times. Repeat the movements 2-3 times with a 2-4 seconds interval. While moving the eyes, move them at slow and regular intervals to far up and far down.
- Move eyes sideways as far as possible for 5-6 times at one go. repeat this to 2 times.
- Place index finger of your right hand in front of your eyes. Look at your finger and then any large object 10-12 feet away. repeat this 10 times and do it rapidly.
- Move your eyes up in a circular motion slowly and then down in the same way. Repeat this 2-3 times.
2. Gaze at Sun:
Do it with precaution – Early morning sun when it is not so bright is best.
While sitting face the sun with your eyes closed and gently sway sideways several time for 6-8 minutes. Open your eyes and blink about 8-10 times at the sun then look at some greenery. This eye exercise is good for shortsighted and inflamed eyes.
3. Splashing:
Splach cold water on closed eyes 20-30 times. Rub closed lids for a minute using a clean cotton cloth. This process cools the eyes and improves blood circulation to it.
4. Palming:
Sit comfortably and cover your eyes with palms. Use right palm for right eye and left palm for left eye. Remember not to press down on eyes with your palm. Now try to imagine blackness and let it grow blacker and blacker. Palming reduces stress and relaxes eye muscle.
5. Diet for your eyes:
Natural raw foods are best for eyes. This includes fresh fruits like apple, oranges, grapes, plums, peaches, cherries. Green vegetables are boon for your eyes. Include cabbage, lettuce, turnip tops, and spinach in your daily diet. Root vegetables like carrot, onion, beetroot, potato and turnip also improves eye sight.
Vitamin A helps in improving the condition of eyes, Sufficient quantity of Vitamin A is essential for eye diseases of any kind. The best sources of vitamins are oranges, dates, wheat gram, fresh milk, cod liver oil, raw spinach, cheese, butter, egg yolk, cabbage, soya beans, green peas, tomatoes and lettuce.
